Golf Shot of the Week? Try One with an Alligator Nearby
Vince Whaley found himself in the water at the Sanderson Farms—and not alone, with an alligator keeping watch as he pulled off a great shot to get up and down.
American Vince Whaley gave golf fans a moment to remember at the PGA Tour’s Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi when he waded into ankle-deep water to play a shot—while an alligator floated just metres away.
It happened on the par-5 11th hole, where Whaley’s ball had found the edge of the lake. With his shoes off and his caddie keeping an eye on the reptilian spectator, Whaley splashed out and managed to save par.
The gator never moved, but Whaley’s heart rate—and everyone else’s—certainly did. He went on to shoot a 67 and finish tied for third, boosting his FedExCup standing and keeping his hopes alive for full playing privileges next season.
It’s not every day you see a golfer turn his back on a six-foot gator and still get up-and-down.
