Tom Hardy Narrates a Golf Redemption Story — And You Should Watch It

Amid the buzz surrounding last week’s Open Championship, a compelling short documentary from the Golf Channel quietly slipped under the radar.

The 15-minute feature “Ride With Me” chronicles the remarkable journey of Ryan Peake — from promising junior golfer to prison inmate, and ultimately, to redemption with a victory at the 2024 New Zealand Open.

Peake’s win at the NZ Open secured his place in the field at the Open Championship, but the road there was anything but conventional.

After struggling both on and off the course, Peake became involved with motorcycle gangs and was eventually drawn into the world of drug trafficking. His descent led to a prison sentence, marking a dramatic fall from grace.

The documentary is visually striking; those motorcycle scenes are particularly good.

While the narration includes a handful of familiar sports clichés — mostly courtesy of a Western Australian sports reporter — the production is fantastic and one of the best golf documentaries we’ve seen in some time.

Perhaps the real surprise comes in the form of the narrator: Tom Hardy. Yep, that’s Bane. I’d like to know how he ended up being a part of this.

Peake fired rounds of 77 and 73 to miss the cut at Royal Portrush, playing alongside Phil Mickelson. And he wasn’t going to miss a chance to get a memento of the occasion.

“His caddie gave away golf balls as we were walking off the tee, and I yelled out, ‘What about me?’ and he had a laugh,” Peake said.

“Thought I was being sarcastic, and he said, ‘Are you serious?’ and I said, ‘No, I’m deadly serious’. I said, ‘Can you sign a glove as well’.
