The road to Augusta via the RTJ Trail in Alabama: Part 1

On the road to The Masters we’re playing a set of some of the finest public courses in the USA.

We’re heading to watch The Masters at Augusta on the weekend and we decided to play some golf along the way. We’d heard a bit about the Robert Trent Jones Trail (RTJ Trail), 26 golf courses built across 11 locations in Alabama – all designed by Robert Trent Jones and all open to the public to play.

We’ll be expanding much more on the trip when we return to Australia but here is a short summary of our first three days on the golf course.

After a fun weekend on debut in New Orleans we were on the road out of Louisiana, briefly passing through Mississippi and into Alabama.

First up, we got off to a sensational start by playing the Sherling and Canyon nines at Cambrian Ridge.

We drove an hour after the round to arrive at Capitol Hill – home to three golf courses; The Judge, The Senator and The Legislator.

The Senator is a links style golf course that is home to the LPGA’s Yokohama Tire Classic to be held early next month, but we jumped on the beast that is The Judge at Capitol Hill.

As close to golf on steroids as we’ve ever played.

On Wednesday we made the 90 minute drive north-east to Opelika and the Grand National. The Lake course is home to the PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship held in July which we played today and we will get a look at the Links course tomorrow.
