Tee Time for a Seal? Barnbougle Dunes Gets a Wild Visitor
A curious seal wandered across the dunes and onto the first tee at Barnbougle Dunes, giving golfers a surprise and showcasing the wild beauty of Tasmania’s iconic coastal course.
Golfers at Barnbougle Dunes were treated to a surprise visitor recently—a seal that appeared to be making its way toward the first tee, just in front of the cottages and practice putting green. Captured in a video shared by the Barnbougle team on Instagram, the seal seemed to be sizing up the fairway, perhaps looking for a playing partner.
While Barnbougle’s rugged coastal setting along Tasmania’s Bass Strait is no stranger to wildlife, this particular seal had to cross a good five-minute stretch of dunes to reach the course. Its appearance near the first tee took a few golfers and local staff by surprise.
Australian fur seals are known to haul out on beaches along the Strait, but it’s rare to see one so close to the action.
