Sub-60 Hart-break as Klein claims QLD PGA Championship

Needing a par to card a score of 58 and claim victory, things didn’t go to plan for golfer Tim Hart.

Gold Coast golfer Tim Hart came unstuck at the last hole to miss out on victory at a score of sub-60.

Gold Coast golfer Tim Hart stood on the 18th tee at City Golf Club in Toowoomba yesterday needing a par to claim victory at the Coca-cola QLD PGA Championship. A par would not only hand Hart the trophy (as he would find out later) but would result in an astonishing score of 12-under-par, 58.

In the face of a history-making score, you could have been forgiven for thinking Hart would have been a little nervous over his drive. In attempt to stay aggressive, Hart hit his ball out-of-bounds. His second ball flew into the trees and ten minutes later Hart had carded a triple-bogey; enough to scrape in for a playoff with Kiwi David Klein and finishing with an incredible round of 61.

Klein himself shot a great final round score of 65 and would prevail over Hart in the playoff (his sixth win in seven playoffs) with a birdie at the first extra hole.

“I’m stoked, it’s good to be playing again,” Klein said after his victory. “I had a back injury over Christmas and had to pull out of the Vic Open, Vic PGA and Perth, so it’s been really good to be playing again with me swing feeling 100 per cent.”

You would expect Hart to be disappointed but the 26-year-old took it on the chin pretty well.

“I’m a bit disappointed after the last hole, I really played well all day to get myself in that position. I didn’t know the standings on the leaderboard which probably helped, but that’s no excuse”, Hart said. “I played nice all day and I was happy that I got myself in that position and I’ll learn from that.”
