Stacey Lewis wins British Women’s Open

American Stacy Lewis has added a second major to her belt by winning the 2013 Ricoh Women’s British Open.

American Stacy Lewis produced a remarkable finish at the St.Andrews Old Course to win the Ricoh Women’s British Open by two shots.

Lewis looked to have blown her chances of victory after a poor start that included two bogeys in the opening four holes. Korea’s Choi Na Yeon briefly held a two shot lead just over halfway through her round but faded as Lewis birdied the 17th and 18th holes at St.Andrews to beat Choi and Park Hee Young by two shots.

As the tournament began last Thursday, all eyes were on world number one Inbee Park to see if she could make golfing history and notch up her fourth consecutive major victory but a poor weekend saw Park finish 14-stroked behind Lewis in a tie for 42nd place.

Katherine Hull-Kirk was the leading Australian at St.Andrews finsihing 11-strokes behind Lewis in a tie for 22nd spot. Karrie Webb had a week to forget and play on the weekend after missing the cut.

Lewis becomes the first American to win the Women’s British Open since 2006 and the victory broke the Asian player dominance at majors stretching back 10 tournaments.
