Spieth leads The Open as Aussies fall away: Round 2 video highlights

Jordan Spieth holds a two-stroke lead going into the weekend at the 146th Open at Royal Birkdale.

In tough, windy conditions Jordan Spieth fired an impressive 1-under par, that included a majestic eagle at the par-5 15th to grab a two shot cushion from his fellow countryman Matt Kuchar.

Ian Poulter and Brooks Keopka are one stroke further back at 3-under par.

Lurking not behind is 2014 Open champion Rory McIlroy.

As the commentators mention in the video highlights McIlroy walked off the 6th green during his opening round at 5-over par for the tournament. Since then, 30 holes later McIlroy sits six shots better at 1-under par and within reach of Spieth heading to the weekend.

It wasn’t a great day for the Australians with almost everyone going backwards on the leaderboard and only some atrocious afternoon conditions pushing the cut back to give them a chance to tee it up over the weekend.

Adam Scott is somehow the best of them despite having a poor round. Hitting just 36% of fairways and needing 31 putts, Scott posted a 4-over par round to sit at 3-over for the tournament and nine shots behind Spieth.

Andrew Dodt (+4), Jason Day (+5), Scott Hend (+5), Marc Leishman (+5) and Aaron Baddeley (+5) will also play over the weekend after sneaking inside the 6-over par cutline.
