Scott takes the lead in a green day at Royal Pines

Friday was a designated “Wear green for Adam Scott” day at the 2013 Australian PGA Championship and he didn’t disappoint the fans.

The 2013 Masters champion posted the equal best round for round two in front of fans and fellow professional golfers dressed in green to celebrate Adam Scott’s historic achievement at Augusta National.

Scott had the best of the conditions early in the day and began his round with a birdie and an eagle in his opening three holes. Scott only managed one more birdie for the rest of his round as the wind started to whip up at Royal Pines but a second bogey-free round gives Scott a two-stroke lead going into the weekend.

“It’s just the wind. It’s going to be the wind that makes it harder or easier over the weekend,” Scott said.

“It’ll be the wind that determines how tough this place plays.”

Scott spent half an hour after the round signing autographs for fans dressed in the green jacket.

Round one leader Rickie Fowler had a tougher time of things in the blustery afternoon conditions.

Fowler began his afternoon round two strokes behind Scott but made up the gap by holing his approach shot on the first for eagle. However the American’s round was littered with bogey’s in the trying conditions and he settled for a 1-over par round 73 to find himself three strokes behind Scott.

“I’m definitely happy with the way I hung in there. Obviously I didn’t get a whole lot out of the round but I didn’t take myself out of it,” said Fowler after his round.

“Usually there’s one tough round in a tournament when you have a chance to be in contention. Hopefully that was the one that I got out of the way and I have two good ones the next two days.”

One of the good guys of Australian golf David McKenzie finds himself paired with Adam Scott tomorrow after his second round 69 was enough to give himself outright second place.
