Russell Knox channels Tin Cup at the 17th at TPC Sawgrass: video

Scotland´s Russell Knox has an “epic fail” during his third round of the PLAYERS Championship.

The par-3 island green 17th at TPC Sawgrass can be an intimidating place, even for the professionals who wouldn’t normally have any trouble landing a short iron in an area the size of the green.

With the wind swirling and Russell Knox just five strokes behind leader Jason Day, an “epic fail” was just around the corner.

Knox hit three balls into the water hazard including a shank after choosing to play again from the tee.

“I mean, that was an epic fail. Until you’re in that position you don’t understand what it feels like. I thought I hit a good first shot. I thought I’d stuffed it. And then after that, I mean, it just goes so quickly,” Knox said.

Knox eventually went to the drop zone and hit the ball into the middle of the green, then two-putted for a sextuple nine.

“You’ve got thousands of people laughing at you. It’s a very uncomfortable feeling.”

Knox´s sextuple bogey 9 is only the fourth worst score at the 17th in the history of the PLAYERS Championship. Before him there has been a 10, 11 and a 12.
