Rules of Golf: Loose Impediments
Camilo Villegas was disqualified from last week’s PGA Tour event in Hawaii. A TV viewer noticed the possible rules infringement and alerted tournament officials of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
You can see the infringement in the video below where golf Rule 23-1 was broken, relating to loose impediments. It states:
When a ball is in motion, a loose impediment that might influence the movement of the ball must not be removed.
Camilo took it on the chin, “While it is obviously a disappointing way to start the season, the rules are the rules. And when something like this happens, it’s important to me that you’re respectful of the game and the people involved.”
