Royal Melbourne to host Australian Masters for first time

The Australian Masters is heading to Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

Royal Melbourne has been named the host course for the 2013 Australian Masters to be held November 14 – 17. This marks the first time the Australian Masters has been held at Royal Melbourne and will surely be a huge enticement for international players wanting to experience one of the best golf courses on the planet.

The big professional golf tournaments in Australia is under threat more than ever this year as the US PGA Tour moves to a year long schedule beginning in October 2013. Players will be keen to get themselves off to a good start in order to maintain their tour card which threatens to thwart the number of golfers, including Australians who would normally be keen to make the trip down under.

The news that the Australian Masters will be played at the Royal Melbourne composite course (a combination of holes from the East and West golf courses) is great news. It will at add some extra bait to bring the stars of the game to Australian shores.

IMG have made a commitment to bring three of the world’s Top 25 players to the event, something they have previously managed to achieve with Ian Poulter, Adam Scott, Luke Donald and Graeme McDowell have all been a part of the Australian Masters field in the past two years.
Senior Vice President and Global Managing Director-IMG Golf, Guy Kinnings was part of the announcement.

“Australian golf is fortunate to have such outstanding support from the Victorian Government and we are delighted and privileged to have the opportunity to stage the Masters at Royal Melbourne for the first time. It provides a great synergy with our “best in class” positioning to see the world’s best players on the best courses on the sandbelt”, Kinnings said.

Make no mistake, IMG is an incredible supporter of golf in this country. As part of IMG at the time, Tiger Woods was enticed to Australia in 2009 and created huge publicity for the game and unprecedented galleries out to watch the world’s number one ranked golfer.
