Rory McIlroy threw his underperforming 3-wood onto the New Jersey Turnpike last week

Golf fans in New Jersey are out looking for a golf club that Rory McIlroy hurled out of the golf course last week.

Rory McIlroy has a history of hurling golf clubs, and he threw another one out of bounds last week.

Rory McIlroy was so incensed with the way his 3-wood was performing at last week’s NORTHERN TRUST tournament that he hurled the offending stick over the fence and into the trees.

After arriving at the ninth hole in his final round, McIlroy told reporters this week he’d had enough and the club is now lying in trees somewhere near the freeway.

“I tried to throw my 3-wood off the ninth hole at Liberty National onto the New Jersey Turnpike, on Monday,” McIlroy said.

“I may not have reached the road but it’s well into the trees, so if someone wants to go get themselves a 3-wood there is one in there somewhere”.

McIlroy spent a long time on the range configuring a new 3-wood ahead of this week’s BMW Championship and it looks to be paying dividends.

McIlroy is in a tie for the lead with Jon Rahm and Sam Burns after the opening round.
