Ogilvy talks course design: video

“I’ve been very fortunate to play most of the best golf courses in the world. I’m mean there’s still a lot on my list…”: Geoff Ogilvy.

I was fortunate enough to attend a discussion night at the Bonnie Doon Golf Club last November which featured Geoff Ogilvy, Mike Clayton and Scottish golf journalist John Huggan amongst others.

Geoff Ogilvy is a certified golf nerd with an incredible sense of history of the game, and is by far and away the most interesting of all the current Australian professional golfers.

Ogilvy recently penned an article for Golf Digest about wanting to play on better golf courses. In this video he further describes how began to think about golf course design, as well as Mike Clayton’s thoughts on Ogilvy’s contribution to the partnership.

For golf nuts, it was one of those evenings that could have gone on forever. The general theme was of golf course architecture as the Ogilvy/Clayton team have just redesigned the Bonnie Doon, due to open very soon.

But the light-hearted evening also drew discussions about slow play, Colin Montgomerie, belly putters, and the general state of the game. Hopefully we see more of it released in the coming months.
