New golf fashion? Rory McIlroy plays in cuffed pants and trainers

Golf may have just changed course with some new fashion trends being started by Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy.

Rickie Fowler has antiquated golf establishments shaking in their boots after he set new fashion trends on the golf course this year.

Fowler’s high-top golf shoes have divided golf fans but things have just gotten a little more interesting with Rory McIlroy (also part of the Nike stable) sporting his own unique golf clothing this week at the PLAYERS Championship.

McIlroy played his opening round at TPC Sawgrass in cuffed ‘golf’ pants and golf shoes that look a lot like trainers. Fowler followed a similar fashion trend with his own cuffed pants and some colourful golf shoes.

While the trend to a more comfortable, street-style golf shoes has happened for a few years now, it’s fair to say this get-up wouldn’t cut it at many private courses in Australia, let alone most of the golf courses in the USA.

Maybe this is the start of a shake-up in what is considered to be golf attire – golf will be better for it.
