Geoff Ogilvy has launched a brand new Australian golf tournament known as The Sandbelt Invitational which will be played December 20-23, 2021, across a number of the best golf courses in Melbourne’s Sandbelt – Royal Melbourne, Kingston Heath, Yarra Yarra and Peninsula Kingwood.
The news of this came a little from nowhere yesterday and details are still a little scarce but we’re told the event will feature both men and women, as well as professional and amateur golfers.
Perhaps something in the style of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship?
In the wake of the cancellation of the Australian Open, our best golfers badly need a few more golf tournaments to compete in, and this sounds like a great concept. We’ll see what develops in the coming weeks.
As reported yesterday by Henry Peters on Channel 10;
US Open champion @GeoffOgilvyGolf has launched a brand new pro golf tournament in Melbourne – The Sandbelt Invitational.
Held on 4 world-class courses, the event boasts an unorthodox format and a vision to become Australia's premier pro tournament.@10NewsFirstMelb pic.twitter.com/X1IezluMRn
