Magpie captured attacking a monitor lizard on Townsville golf course

Magpies have been swooping to protect their nests on the golf course again this Spring, but it may be a surprise to learn they also swoop lizards.

A slightly odd, slightly golf related story from the animal world is making the rounds this week.

A bloke by the name of Michael Innes told Storyful and reported on MSN that he captured this video of a magpie swooping a monitor lizard at Rowes Bay Golf Course in Townville.

“I started to film the goanna for some kids back home that I thought would love to see this big lizard and then the magpie flew over my left shoulder and the rest is captured on the video,” Innes told Storyful.

  • Not a lizard! I would jump in my golf cart, speed away and never look back.
