Jason Day wins at Torrey Pines, now Australia’s highest ranked golfer: video highlights

Jason Day becomes Australia’s highest ranked golfer after victory at the 2015 Farmers Insurance Open.

Jason Day has won the Farmers Insurance Open, surviving a 4-way sudden-death playoff to become the first Australian to ever win at Torrey Pines. The victory propels Day up four spots in the world golf rankings to become Australia’s highest ranked golfer – replacing Adam Scott as the world number four.

Day was still three shots behind the leader JB Holmes late in his round before grabbing a couple of birdies to be equal clubhouse leader. By the time all players had completed their round Day found himself tied for the lead with three other golfers: Americans JB Holmes, Harris English and Scott Stallings.

Day and Holmes made birdies on the first par-5 18th playoff hole meaning Stallings and English dropped out with pars. The second playoff hole was the par-3 16th hole where Holmes sent his tee shot way left, requiring a drop away from a TV tower.

Day safely found the green and his par was ultimately good enough for victory – his third on the PGA Tour.
