Italian teen prodigy to play Australian Masters

The Australian summer of golf just got bigger with the news that young Italian Matteo Manassero will play in the 2011 JBWere Australian Masters.
I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to predict Matteo Manassero as being a future major winner. The 18-year-old Italian has already impressed on the big stage

In 2009 he qualified for The Open Championship by becoming the youngest ever winner of the British Amateur Championship. He finished in a tie for 13th in The Open that year and in the following year, he became the youngest ever golfer to make the cut at the US Masters.
Since turning professional, Manassero has had two victories on the European Tour, his first made him the youngest ever winner of a tournament on the tour. His second made him the second youngest.
He finished in a tie for 37th at this week’s US PGA Championship and it is another great coup for the JBWere Masters to have him tee up in December (15 – 18). He joins Luke Donald, Ian Poulter and defending champion Stuart Appleby as confirmed starters.
“I have heard many great things about the Melbourne sandbelt and I am really excited about the opportunity to play in Australia”, he said.
