ESPN’s 30 for 30: Greg Norman watches his 1996 Masters collapse and it’s uncomfortable
In the latest episode of ESPN’s 30 for 30 series the spotlight is back on Greg Norman, and specifically that heartbreaking collapse at 1996 Masters Tournament.
Most Australians will remember, and likely want to forget the day that Greg Norman blew a six-stroke lead going into the final round of the Masters in 1996.
Seemingly with one arm inside a green jacket that he wanted to win so badly, Norman posted a final round 78, which included three birdies, five bogeys and two killer double bogeys at both par-3s on the back nine. Each time finding the water.
It was excruciating to watch then and you’d think it’s something Greg Norman would find hard to re-watch. But ESPN must have paid him enough money to revisit the day in detail and it’s the topic of the latest 30 for 30 series.
Like every episode in the series, it’s incredibly compelling viewing but it’s uncomfortable to watch.
It’s hard not to squirm in your seat as the camera focuses on Norman as he sits down to re-watch the final-round collapse.
