Tape Measure Golf sets a gimme distance according to your handicap and looks like a fun, knockabout golf format to play with your buddies.
We’ve heard of a similar format using a length of rope that you’re allowed to use across the whole round but this one is new to us.
Here these dudes from Breakfast Ball explain Tape Measure Golf. Your length of gimme distance on each hole is determined by your handicap, but you can also use some of it to move your ball if you’re in trouble.

Today I was observing these players use a tape measure. I didn’t get it, nor had I seen this type of play before. I google it, and got my question answered. I didn’t get the WHY alter the rules.
