Geoff Ogilvy breaks four-year winless drought on PGA Tour

Geoff Ogilvy is finally back in the winners circle and grabs himself a spot in the US PGA Championship.

Geoff Ogilvy has broken a four-year winless drought to claim his eighth PGA Tour victory at the Barracuda Championship at the Montreux G&CC in Nevada.

Ogilvy led for most of the modified stableford scoring tournament and finished five points ahead of American Justin Hicks.

Ogilvy’s last professional victory was at The Lakes in Sydney when he won the 2010 Australian Open. He last win on the PGA Tour was in January of 2010 win he outlasted Rory Sabbatini to win the SBS Championship in Hawaii.

The victory also sees Ogilvy jumps 67 places to 84th in the FedEx Cup standings assuring him a spot in probably at least two playoff events. He becomes the sixth Australian to win on the PGA Tour this year along with Matt Jones, Jason Day, Steven Bowditch, Adam Scott and John Senden.

After year’s of battling to see his silky smooth swing keep the ball on the fairway, golf fans (myself included) were really starting to wonder if we’d ever seen a smiling Geoff Ogilvy holding a winner’s trophy again. Best of all we’ll see Ogilvy in this week’s US PGA Championship.
