Clarke to play Australian PGA
The 2011 Australian PGA Championship received a huge boost today with the announcement that Darren Clarke will be in the field at Coolum in November.
The Open champion Darren Clarke hasn’t been in Australia since his appearance at the Australian Open in 2008. It will be his first appearance at Coolum which is held from November 24 – 27.
“I have heard great things about Queensland and the course at Coolum so I am looking forward to playing golf in more warm conditions than I am used to and also testing my game on a different style course to that of a links,” Clarke said.
“My family also can’t wait to get to the Sunshine Coast.”
With Northern Ireland dominating golf at the moment it is a nice boost for the Australian PGA Championship. Clarke will be joined by Greg Norman, Jason Day and Bubba Watson who have already committed to playing the event.
I’m not sure whether Clarke was secured for the PGA Championship before his Open victory but either way he’s a great addition to the field. No word yet on whether he will play in any other Australian tournaments at this stage but along with the Presidents Cup, The Australian Open, and Luke Donald and Ian Poulter set for the Australian Masters, we’ve got a pretty nice summer of golf ahead!
