R&A to broadcast virtual Open featuring best golfers of modern era

The Open for the Ages is an incredible virtual Open Championship that will see the best golfers of the past 50 years face off against each other at The Home of Golf.

In light of the cancellation of the 2020 Open Championship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the R&A will broadcast (July 16 – 19) an extraordinary virtual golf tournament featuring the best golfers of the last 50 years.

JB Holmes leads, Rory and Tiger stumble at The Open – Round 1 full video highlights

It was a slow, long day at Royal Portrush that sees American JB Holmes leading Ireland’s Shane Lowry but a stroke at the end of day one of the 2019 Open Championship.

As the wind and rain swept across the north coast of Northern Ireland, plenty of big names tumbled down the leaderboard including Tiger Woods and pre-tournament favourite Rory McIlroy who stumbled out of the blocks with a quadruple-bogey on the opening hole.

Watch this news reel of the 1951 Open Championship at Royal Portrush

The Open returns to Northern Ireland this week for the first time since 1951.

The last time The Open Championship was played at Royal Portrush was in 1951 when England’s Max Faulkner claimed the Claret Jug.

We stumbled upon this old highlights news reel from the tournament which also includes a brief few seconds of Australian Norman Von Nida (also a photo of him below) who despite leading through the first round, withdrew before he finished on Sunday with illness.
