First superstar Aussie locked in for Australian summer of golf

Lucas Herbert is making a homecoming for the Australian summer of golf in 2022 as he strives to win the glittering prize of his first big championship in his native country.

Following his second top-15 finish in a major this year at the Open Championship at St Andrews, the 26-year-old Australian will play the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland from 24 to 27 November and the Australian Open at Victoria Golf Club and Kingston Heath in Melbourne from 1 to 4 December.

New event honours Australia’s greatest major champion

Major champion Hannah Green will headline the inaugural Australian WPGA Championship as 24 of Australia’s best female golfers compete for the Karrie Webb Cup to be staged alongside the Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane.

The 2021 Scottish Open champion Min Woo Lee, and former US Open champion and winner of the Joe Kirkwood Cup in 2008, Geoff Ogilvy will tee it up in the 2021 Australian PGA Championship from January 13-16.

The Covid-19 pandemic, the need to ensure public safety and concerns over quarantine requirements have forced the postponement of the nation’s most prestigious golf tournaments, the Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship, until early-2022. Australia’s major golf events cancelled

It is with regret that the Australian golf industry announces this summer’s premier events – the Australian PGA Championship, Australian Open and Women’s Australian Open – have been cancelled.

PGA of Australia chief executive Gavin Kirkman, ALPG chief executive Karen Lunn and Golf Australia chief executive James Sutherland confirmed all three events, which were to have been played in February, won’t proceed because of the global pandemic.

Australian PGA Championship postponed until February 2021

Following discussions with the Queensland government and key stakeholders, the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia will postpone the Australian PGA Championship to 18-21 February 2021.

New Australasian golf tour schedule as date for #AusPGA is revealed

The ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia will endeavour to recapture golf’s golden years in this country with a reimagined tournament schedule that will see the tour in full swing from October and culminate with the crowning of the Order of Merit winner in March.

The restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic has brought about significant disruption to the 2020 schedule but in order to play a full complement of events the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia will extend the season until March 2021, a format that will become the norm moving forward.
