Ogilvy, Jones join stars for ISPS HANDA Australian Open this year

Two past winners including the defending men’s champion have added their names to the high quality field for the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in Melbourne this December.

All-time great Australian golfer and major-winner Geoff Ogilvy, winner of the 2010 Open at The Lakes in Sydney, and the 2019 and 2017 national champion Matt Jones have confirmed that they will tee it up at Victoria Golf Club and Kingston Heath Golf Club from 1-4 December.

Following his second top-15 finish in a major this year at the Open Championship at St Andrews, the 26-year-old Australian will play the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland from 24 to 27 November and the Australian Open at Victoria Golf Club and Kingston Heath in Melbourne from 1 to 4 December.

Golf Australia announced today that Australia’s national Open golf championships will be cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.

In the case of the Men’s Australian Open which is usually played in late November or early December, this will be the second successive year the event will be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It is with great delight that Golf Australia confirms the Australian Open will be played in 2021.

The battle for the time-honoured Stonehaven Cup, one of world golf’s oldest trophies, will take place at The Australian Golf Club in Sydney from 25-28 November.

It is the week before the Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland, giving the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia a two-week block of world-class golf.

Australia’s major golf events cancelled

It is with regret that the Australian golf industry announces this summer’s premier events – the Australian PGA Championship, Australian Open and Women’s Australian Open – have been cancelled.

PGA of Australia chief executive Gavin Kirkman, ALPG chief executive Karen Lunn and Golf Australia chief executive James Sutherland confirmed all three events, which were to have been played in February, won’t proceed because of the global pandemic.
