BRUTAL Danny Willett three putts from three feet to lose Fortinet Championship by one shot
Max Homa has successfully defended his PGA Tour Fortinet Championship title but it came about in crazy circumstances.
A wild, brutal-to-watch finish at the Fortinet Championship has seen Max Homa beat Danny Willett by a single shot.
Taking a one-stroke lead into the final hole, Willet looked home and hosed after knocking a wedge three feet from the hole to line up a birdie putt which would secure victory. But Homa had other plans.
In wet conditions, Homa’s bunker shot didn’t reach the green and found the deep swale in front of the 18th green at the Silverado Resort and Spa North. Homa made the tricky chip shot look easy, holing out to put the pressure back on Willett.
You may want to look away before Willett attempts his birdie putt for the win. The 2016 Masters champion smashed it past the hole and missed the putt coming back to hand Homa the trophy.
