Blewett joins the best Australian amateur golfers in Adelaide

Australia’s oldest amateur teams event tees off in Adelaide this week.

The Australian Interstate Teams Matches is Australia’s oldest amateur teams championship and is being hosted at Royal Adelaide and West Lakes Golf Club’s this week. Greg Norman, Jason Day and Geoff Ogilvy are some of the many golfers who have played in this prestigious tournament that was first held in 1904.
Former Australian Test cricketer Greg Blewett will be a member of the South Australian team taking part in the men’s championship at Royal Adelaide. Blewett was considered a very good golfer even during his professional cricket career but since retiring, he has honed his game to another level to see him representing his home state this week.

The men’s event sees two of the top-25 world’s best amateur golfers taking part. Jake Higginbottom from New South Wales is currently ranked at 10th best amateur in the world, while Queensland’s Cameron Smith is ranked 23. The women’s event is hosted by West Lakes Golf Club and includes four of the top 25 amateur golfers, including Western Australian Minjee Lee (6), and Victoria’s Breanna Elliott (10).
The first four days sees each player playing round robin matchplay against players from other interstate teams. The final will be played on Friday between the teams with the most match winners.
