Australians watch the weather as all 11 handed late tee times at 2017 Open Championship

The fate of Australian hopes at The Open may lay in the laps of the weather gods after all 11 were given afternoon tee times for their opening round.

Few golf tournaments are as affected by the weather as The Open. Traditionally played on wind-swept links golf courses, the chances of a player getting his hands on The Claret Jug can be decided by the time at which they tee off on Thursday and Friday.

The large 156-man field can mean that a player teeing off in the morning can vastly different playing conditions to those teeing off in the afternoon.

In a remarkable draw, all 10 of the 11 Australians in the field this week at Royal Birkdale for the 146th Open will be teeing off in the afternoon. Only Adam Bland will tee off before midday, at 11:47am.

If the weather gods decide that a blustery Thursday afternoon and Friday morning is on the cards, the chances of any Australian golfers raising the The Claret Jug on Sunday would be severely dented.

Adam Bland will lead the Aussies out at 11:47am (8:47pm AEST) with Ryan McCarthy going out in the final group over three hours later at 4:16pm (1:16am).
