Australian Golf Holidays: Fleurieu Peninsula
South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula is worth a look as a golf holiday destination.
Australia is perhaps the most accessible place in the world to play golf. Not only are there a good number of well priced public courses but if you’re looking for a golf holiday the options are also plentiful.
We’ve played golf in most of the country and over the past few years have become more aware of the wonderful areas to spend a few days with the small white ball.
A good golfing holiday destination should contain a few golf courses of varying degrees of difficulty and price. If you want to play one course 3 days in a row, fine. But we’ll be keeping the criteria to areas you could play a few different courses.
We’ve decided to take a look at these regions from time to time here at Aussie Golfer starting with the South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, an hour drive south of Adelaide.
It also has some wonderful golf courses and none will cost you more than about $50 to play (exc. cart).We’ve loved every round at McCracken Country Club. It is a resort styled course but with 74 bunkers and 14 lakes it’s not a course to be taken lightly. Great for all golfers but low handicappers will enjoy a very interesting layout.
Victor Harbour Golf Course is well known for its opening tee shot. Perched high overlooking the rest of the course it’s a great start with great views. Perfect for golfers of all abilities.
We played the Fleurieu Golf Course on a wet and very windy day, and we’e experienced few harder days on the golf course.
This tough links golf course is a real test. If you think you can spray it around on a links golf course, Fleurieu Golf Club will let you know just how wrong you are. High handicappers used to fear this golf course but it has been made easier in recent times making it much more enjoyable for everyone.

Links Lady Bay is the gem of the bunch. Designed by Jack Newton and others, it’s rated by Golf Digest at #52 best golf course in Australia and is a links golf dream. It hardly needs to be said, but if it blows, watch out (ACR 74). At $40 a round you won’t get better value in Australia. All serious golfers should play this course.

Fleurieu is a brilliant course and i dont think your words have done it justice. I also think Links Lady Bay is overrated with some questionable tee shots on the back 9. It is still a good course though.
