Ash Barty to play in Icons Series golf event in United States

Several news outlets including Golf Australia Magazine are reporting that recently retired tennis player Ash Barty will tee it up in an upcoming golf tournament in the US.

The Icons Series is a golf event that self-proclaims to “redefine and disrupt the golf and sports content space”. The next edition of the golf event will be played at the Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey with Ernie Els and Fred Couples as team captains, and Ash Barty playing for the Rest of the World team.

Since retiring at the top of world tennis, it has been speculated that Barty may try her hand at professional golf. Barty is no chump with the golf clubs playing off a handicap of 3 at Btrookwater Golf Club in Brisbane.

The Icons Series tournament will also feature other global celebrities including Harry Kane, Pep Guardiola, Michael Phelps and Oscar De La Hoya in a mixture of greensomes, fourball and singles matches held over two days, June 30 – July 1.

Several news outlets including Golf Australia Magazine are reporting that not only is Barty playing, but she wants to bring the event to Australia next year,

The late Shane Warne has played in a previous edition while this time Manchester City soccer manager Pep Guardiola, boxer Oscar De La Hoya and retired swim great Michael Phelps will line up.

The June tournament is a nine-hole team match-play format at Liberty National.

Barty is reportedly looking to bring the event to Australia next year.

She has been coy on her post-retirement plans, although they are sure to involve golf in some way as she lives on a golf course with her fiancé Garry Kissick, a PGA trainee professional and regular caddie for PGA Tour of Australasia player and former Australian Amateur winner Louis Dobbelaar.
