Adam Scott wins pink jacket at 2013 PGA Grand Slam of Golf: video

Scott breaks course record to clinch PGA Grand Slam of Golf.

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf is an end of season event in Bermuda where all four major winners compete against each other over 36 holes. This year – like most years – not all the major champions can play in the event (or want to), and so Padraig Harrington replaced Phil Mickelson and joined Adam Scott, Justin Rose and Jason Dufner in the four-man field.

It’s a Mickey Mouse event really that is a hit and giggle for the players at the end of a long year, but there is a US$1.35 million purse on offer with a guaranteed $200,000 for finishing fourth (or last).

Adam Scott showed his game is still very much in tournament mode though and produced a course record 8-under par 64 to beat Rose by two shots. Scott was four shots behind Rose after the first round largely due to some closing hole bogeys but stormed home two beat Rose by two shots.

Through 13 holes of the second and final round, Scott was three shots behind Rose. Two birdies and an eagle through the final six holes saw Scott claw his way back and seal the victory.

“Standing on the 11th tee, didn’t like lake a score like that was going to be possible, but I played very well and managed to slowly claw away at Justin.  After he made bogey on 16, I managed to capitalize on that by hitting such a great shot into 17”, Scott said after the round.

For his valiant efforts Scott received a pink jacket and a US$600,000 cheque for his two days work.

Scott will now take some time off and slowly head back to Australia for a busy November that sees him playing in all the big tournaments starting with the Australian PGA Championship on the Gold Coast in three weeks time (November 7 – 10, 2013).

“I’m leaving tonight. I’m going over to the U.K. to see my sister and kind of make my long way home to Australia over the next couple of weeks. I’ll spend some time with her over there, hoping for good weather (chuckling), wishful thinking maybe.  But I’m looking forward to catching up with them and getting back to Australia in time for the Australian PGA, which is the first week in November”, Scott said.

As Nicole Powell of the PGA of Australia so rightly pointed out, Scott now has a green, gold and pink jacket in his wardrobe.
