Adam Scott wins 2004 PLAYERS Championship: final hole video
Ten years ago Adam Scott claimed the biggest victory of his career by winning the 2004 PLAYERS championship but he almost blew it.
Ahead of this week’s PLAYERS Championship, it’s worth a look at the last time an Australian held up the trophy for the richest event on the PGA Tour.
Adam Scott held a two-shot lead at the 2004 PLAYERS Championship and was safely in the middle of the fairway on the final hole. The engraver began etching his name into the trophy but was told to stop when Scott hooked his 6-iron approach into the water.
A great up-and-down for bogey landed Scott with the biggest winner’s cheque of his career.
The victory led many golf experts to predict that Scott would go on to win many more golf tournaments, if not a major in the very near future.
While those predictions have come true they came a little later than expected with Scott admitting he relied too much on talent alone and wasn’t doing enough hard work off the course.
