2025 Australian WPGA Championship Cancelled Due to Cyclone Alfred

The 2025 Australian WPGA Championship and Gold Coast Festival of Golf have been cancelled due to the expected impact of Cyclone Alfred.

Organizers made the decision following discussions with relevant authorities and stakeholders, prioritizing the safety of players, staff, and spectators.

While the cancellation is entirely understandable given the extreme weather forecast, it is a significant blow for the event, co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour. The week was set to feature not only elite competition but also the Gold Coast Festival of Golf, which included live music, pop-up bars, interactive experiences, and golf and lifestyle displays.

The tournament was set to mark the long-awaited return of Sarah Kemp, who had been sidelined for over six months due to a golf cart injury.

Below is the official media release regarding the cancellation:

“Following extensive consultation with all stakeholders, the 2025 Australian WPGA Championship and Gold Coast Festival of Golf have been cancelled due to the impending impact of Cyclone Alfred.

After monitoring weather forecasts and following dialogue with the Queensland Government, Gold Coast City Council, Mulpha Group, Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club and the Ladies European Tour, we have taken the unprecedented decision to cancel the event ahead of the first days play set to take place on Thursday.

With the predicted high rainfall, extreme winds and expected flooding, the decision has been made to ensure the safety of players, staff, fans and all stakeholders, which remains the priority.

Although supremely disappointing, all stakeholders now look ahead to 2026 with the tournament blueprint already in place to ensure we have an exciting Australian WPGA Championship and Gold Coast Festival of Golf.”
