2023 US OPEN The history and architecture of Los Angeles Country Club
Here is one for golf architecture geeks, The Fried Egg’s guide to the history of the host course for this week’s US Open.
We posted a hole-by-hole guide of the Los Angeles Country Club North Course, the host of this week’s US Open. But if you’re looking for a more in-depth video on the history and recent Gil Hanse and Geoff Shackelford restoration of LACC, look no further than this fantastic piece by the team at The Fried Egg team.
A few things to note from the video:
- Check out the 6th hole, it looks fantastic.
- Bunkers that are true hazards!
- The 11th will be a 290-yard par-3.
- The before and after photos interleaved towards the end are remarkable in their difference.
We get underwhelmed by the usual mediocre, thick, rough golf courses proliferating professional golf. So we’re excited by this one, it should be a great week.
