Woods, Day, McIlroy and Matsuyama to play skins game in Japan

In a throwback to years gone by four of the world’s best golfers will play out an exhibition skins match.

In the lead up to Japan’s first-ever PGA Tour event next week (ZOZO Championship), Tiger Woods, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Hideki Matsuyama will play for $350,000 in prize money in The Challenge: Japan Skins in Japan next Monday (October 21) to be streamed exclusively on GOLF TV.

Anyone old enough may remember seeing some of the world’s best players regularly competing for a stack of prize money in a skins match, but the format lost interest  among golf fans and sponsors as the professional tour purses skyrocketed.

And before you ask, you’re right, it’s not a huge amount of money they’re playing for – at least not compared to the weekly prize up for grabs on the PGA Tour.

No doubt there has already been a lot of money exchange hands to get these four golfers teeing off next Monday.

Organisers have put together an entertaining video featuring Woods, Day, McIlroy and Matsuyama. It doesn’t look like they were all in the room at the same time, but nonetheless there are some funny lines in this one.

The Challenge: Japan Skins will be streamed exclusively via GOLF TV on Monday October 21, starting at 1pm in Japan – 11am AEDT.
