It took two sudden-death playoff holes for Justin Thomas to beat Marc Leishman to the inaugural PGA Tour CJ Cup in South Korea.
Justin Thomas has chalked up his fifth PGA Tour victory of the year after a sudden-death playoff victory over Marc Leishman.
Thomas ultimately carded an even-par round on the final day of the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges in South Korea but the American had a chance to claim victory in regulation but his eagle putt at the final hole slid past the hole.
The birdie meant that Thomas and Leishman finished in a tie at 9-under par, one stroke ahead of another Australian Cameron Smith whose final round 2-under par wasn’t enough to make it a three-way playoff.
Leishman had a chance to win on the first extra hole despite a wayward drive. But his birdie putt slid past the hole and both players went back to the 18th tee at Nine Bridges once again.
This time Leishman found the fairway but an ambitious approach shot with a fairway wood found the water hazard and Thomas seized the moment to birdie the hole and record his fifth victory in 2017.
