US Masters 2011: 5 dark horses who could win the green jacket
Yesterday we looked at the favourites for the 2011 US Masters but there are a few players who are ranked a little lower than they should be leading into Augusta National this week.
Here are five golfers who have the ability to fly under the radar and may just steal the green jacket out from under our noses.
1. Justin Rose
I’ve liked Justin Rose at the US Masters ever since he almost stole the tournament in 2007. Even the TV producers were surprised to see him in contention, as we only got to see Rose play his final few holes. He has had seven top-25’s this year, including top-5 finishes in his past two starts. Big chance.
2. Matt Kuchar
Matt Kuchar has an outstanding short game and his record this year has been superb. He is rising in confidence each tournament but reportedly doesn’t hit the ball high enough for Augusta. Time will tell, but an excellent Top-25 bet all the same.
3. Graeme McDowell
McDowell doesn’t have great form at Augusta but he has taken his game to another level since his 2010 US Open victory. He has three Top-10’s on tour this year. McDowell has the resolve to knuckle down and fight it out against anyone, and any course.
4. Louis Oosthuizen
Here is a bloke not supposed to win one major let alone two but don’t rule him out here. South African golfers are on fire this year and Oosthuizen, after coming back from a freak ankle injury he is slowly returning to form.
5. Geoff Ogilvy
Some agencies have Ogilvy around 70-1 to win at Augusta. For a guy who knows what it takes to win a major, that is fairly generous. He hasn’t set the world on fire this year but some sub-70 rounds a few weeks ago show he is not far away.

I too agree that they are the dark horses to rock the game and my hearty wishes for them to play their best with the green jacket in their hands.
