Tiger Woods sacks a shocked Steve Williams

Steve Williams is now officially on the bag for Adam Scott, after the official announcement that he was fired by Tiger Woods.

Ever since Steve Williams started caddying for Adam Scott a few weeks ago, rumours abound that he was no longer working for Tiger Woods.

It seems they were true with news from Woods saying they have parted ways permanently in an announcement on his website.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Stevie for all his help, but I think it’s time for a change,” Woods said. “Stevie is an outstanding caddie and a friend and has been instrumental in many of my accomplishments. I wish him great success in the future.”

The Tiger Woods and Steve Williams combination produced 13 majors and while Williams has been known to be a fiery character, it seems a little harsh that Woods has given him the boot.

On Williams’ website (who doesn’t have one these days?) he announced his own response.

“After 13 years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock. Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger’s scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling through injuries I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time.”

I still find it very hard to believe that Williams did not know anything about the troubled ways of Tiger Woods and he’s either stayed loyal to his former boss by keeping mum, or he perhaps has been enticed not to say anything.

Either way, Williams sounds pretty chuffed to be working with another Australian.

“Having started my caddying career with Australian great Peter Thompson and working for Greg Norman in the 80’s I am excited about the future working for another Australian.”
