Snow stops play at WGC Match Play
Snow stops play at WGC Match Play Championship for second time in three years.
There were some incredible scenes from the opening round of the WGC Accenture World Match Play Championship today as a forecast snowstorm set in and forced play to be abandoned.
The pictures from Dove Mountain in Arizona, a desert golf course, are stunning (including the one above, tweeted by Frank Nobilo). Many great photos have come from the players themselves via Twitter which we’ve added to the post below, Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler even threw a few snow balls around.
At the time, Jason Day was 6-up through 10 holes in his match against Zach Johnson after firing six birdies to never give Johnson a chance. Conversely John Senden looks like going home early finding himself five holes down through 11 against American Bo van Pelt thanks largely to a string of cold bogeys in the last few holes of the day.
The other Aussies had only just began their rounds when play was abandoned. Marcus Fraser was all square through three holes in his match against Keegan Bradley and Adam Scott had clawed his way back to a lead of 1up against Tim Clark after eight holes. At one stage, Scott found himself two holes down after three holes.
Here is how Australian golf writer Ben Everill conveyed the Aussie scores:
