UPDATE: Stonecutters GC have been in touch with a local reptile expert who says these snakes are in fact in combat. Fighting ahead of mating season.

Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club posted this amazing footage of two red belly black snakes in combat on their Facebook page, and we couldn’t resist sharing it here. (You may need to be logged into Facebook to view it)
It looks like the video was taken by one of the staff members out on the driving range and it’s extraordinary, looking like a twirling piece of licorice.
There is a language warning here which is entirely reasonable under the circumstances. I’d be surprised if anyone wouldn’t have reacted the same way.
Be careful out there this summer.
