Scott stretches lead to three at Australian PGA Championship

Adam Scott looking to become sixth golfer to win the three big Australian golf tournaments.

Adam Scott entered the third round of the 2013 Australian PGA Championship with a two-stroke lead but despite an even par 71, he finds himself with a three-stroke buffer over David McKenzie and Rickie Fowler heading into the final round.

Scott made consecutive bogey’s at the seventh and eighth holes and looked to be struggling to maintain his lead. But two birdies on the back nine got his card back to square and finished at 10-under for the tournament.

“It was tricky out there. If you didn’t play from the fairway there was really no chance of getting it close. It’s a bit of a lottery and every hole played a little bit tougher today,” said Scott.

“I’m going to have to play well; and if someone comes out firing I might have to adjust the way I play. So, we’ll just see what happens but I feel good after the back nine, I hit a lot of nice shots and I’d like to take that into tomorrow.”

Chasing Scott is Rickie Fowler and David McKenzie at 7-under for the tournament. Fowler started well but struggled late in the round to settle for an even-par round.

Victorian David McKenzie is chasing down the biggest win of his career. McKenzie played on the US PGA tour in 2006 but the closest McKenzie has been to claiming a victory of this stature was when he lost a playoff to Richard Green at the 2004 Australian Masters.

Adam Scott looks perfectly placed for victory though and it will take some great golf to overtake him.

A win for Scott would mean he would join select group golfers who have won the Australian PGA Championship, Australian Open and Australian Masters – Robert Allenby, Peter Lonard, Craig Parry, Peter Senior and Greg Norman.
