Scott Hend wins dramatic Hong Kong Open

Scott Hend survives a playoff to win a dramatic Hong Kong Open.

Big hitting Australian Scott Hend has won the Hong Kong Open after beating Angelo Que in a playoff.

Hend begun the final round one shot behind fellow Australian Marcus Fraser and struggled early in his round with two bogeys in his opening five holes. The 41-year-old Queenslander steadied though and with Que already in the ckubhouse at 13-under par, Hend required a stnning up-and-down at the 18th hole to force a playoff.

His approach shot finished plugged in the greenside bunker but Hend managed to get out and sunk the 10 metre putt to tie Che at 13-under par.

Both players returned to the 18th hole where Hend’s par was good enough to earn himself the €171,843 winner’s cheque.

The win was Hend’s sixth on the Asian Tour but as a European Tour co-sanctioned event, Hend has also earned the right to play on that tour in 2015.
