Royal Sydney announced as 2016 Australian Open venue
Australian Open organisers have announced that the Australian Open will be held at Royal Sydney Golf Club in 2016. Royal Sydney last held the Australian Open in 2013 when Rory McIlroy beat Adam Scott to the Stonehaven Cup.
Golf Australia’s CEO Stephen Pitt’s comments about future venues was interesting. Pitt suggested they have the option to hold the Australian Open outside of the Sydney twice in the next eight years, but are under no obligation to do so.
The Australian Open has flourished in Sydney since 2006 but it would be nice to see the event move around the country from time to time.
