Rory McIlroy takes six shots to escape Postage Stamp bunker: video
If you’re looking for drama this week, make sure you’re watching the broadcast when they cross to the Postage Stamp at Royal Troon.
Without doubt the most famous golf hole at this week’s Open Championship host golf course, Royal Troon is the 123-yard par-3 eighth hole. Nicknamed for the “Postage Stamp” for its wee size, it plays much more difficult than it appears.
The small, sloping green guarded by steep, vicious pot bunkers, with the front bunker given its own nickname, the ‘Coffin’ bunker.
It’s name perhaps indicates this is no place to be but Rory McIlroy found himself there during his Monday practice round ahead of the 2016 Open Championship and needed six shots to escape. Eventually settling for an “8 or a 9”.
