Robert Allenby looking for closure at Sony Open in Hawaii

You could be forgiven for thinking Robert Allenby may have skipped the Sony Open this year, instead he is back and looking for closure.

Robert Allenby returns to Hawaii and the Sony Open this week, the place and tournament where his supposed kidnapping and robbery took place last year.

If you recall, Allenby was reportedly kidnapped, beaten and robbed after dinner having with friends in Honolulu after missing the cut at the Sony Open.

The saga got murkier when Allenby admitted to Sunrise he had no recollection of the night and a then homeless woman came forward to say she had saved Allenby after he had been thrown from a car.

He later met the woman in one of the most awkward videos of 2015. That’s not to mention the strip club and lava rock part of the story which may or may not be true.

Doug Ferguson reports for AP and FoxSports that Allenby is back in Hawaii and playing the Sony Open this week and keen to put the whole saga behind him.

“I’ve got so many great memories here that I wasn’t going to let one bad one interrupt it,” he said Sunday night after checking into the Kahala Hotel at Waialae Country Club.

“I also thought for my own well being that maybe I could come here and face it and put some closure on what happened last year.” He had dinner at the hotel with friends and already has his dining plans laid out for the week.

“Room service and (hotel) restaurant,” he said.

Allenby is currently ranked at 600th in the world and desperately needs some good results to reverse the worse form of his career.

Allenby has won 22 professional tournaments in his career including two Australian Opens, four Australian PGA Championships and four times on the PGA Tour, but the Victorian has only made seven cuts in his last 28 starts since last year’s Sony Open. Allenby’s best finish was
