Thanks to Channel Seven and the great team that organise the Australian Open, we have video from previous tournaments to watch and recall online (unlike some other Australian golf tournaments).
Here are the final day highlights from the 2013 Australian Open when Rory McIlroy pipped Adam Scott on the 72nd hole of the tournament at Royal Sydney. Thanks largely to an errant approach shot from Scott, and a poor shot choice for the ship back up the hill.
I remember the atmosphere around the clubhouse after the drama unfolded. Everyone was quite silent and in disbelief. We could all have swallowed a playoff – in fact some of us may have hoped for it – but a two shot swing was a shock.
McIlroy was flawless on the final day and deserved the trophy, but it was still a shock for those of us at the golf course, and for many more watching at home.
