PGA Tour video tribute: The Legacy of Arnold Palmer

Arnold Palmer’s legacy is beautifully honoured in this wonderful video from the PGA Tour.

This week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational is taking on greater significance than usual as it will be the first since Arnold Palmer passed away in September last year. There are already some wonderful tributes to the Palmer who, as Jack Nicklaus says “came along at a time when golf needed somebody to take hold.”

The PGA Tour have put together this wonderful video tribute to the legacy of Arnold Palmer that not only features Jack Nicklaus but other greats of the game including Greg Norman, Gary Player, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Golf Australia have a piece on Jason Day’s memories of Palmer who holds the honour of having the last celebratory drink with him as last year’s tournament winner.

“I think it’s going to be very emotional; it’s just not going to be the same without the `King’,” Day said today.

“It’s very humbling to know I had that last celebratory drink with him as a tournament winner, which is never going to happen again. “It’s a special memory I’ll always have with me.”

This article from Jeff Babineau at GolfWeek is also worth your time reminding us all of Palmer’s prolific letter writing to PGA Tour and LPGA Tour winners.

It was Palmer who convinced Nicklaus to write a note to a tournament sponsor at the end of an event. Nicklaus began writing those notes as a PGA Tour rookie and continued the tradition into his days on what was then the PGA Senior Tour.

“It’s a nice touch that Arnold taught me,” Nicklaus said at the recent Honda Classic, “and I appreciated that very much.”
