Geoff Ogilvy, Jarrod Lyle and Jason Day are on the rise

Aussie Golfer has had a nice run this year by talking up a few Aussies and seeing them perform well the week after.

Geoff Ogilvy was given a little rev-up earlier in the year and went on to win a World Golf Championship a week later. Jarrod Lyle was singled out for his US Open performance a few weeks ago and went on to win the Nationwide Knoxville Open last week. He’s one win away from securing his PGA Tour card for certain next year now but is in good shape even if he doesn’t achieve that.

Another Aussie we’ve talked up a bit (and he’s still very young) is PGA Tour rookie Jason Day (pictured) but after reading some comments by him in an Australian Golf Digest article a few months ago, Aussie Golfer is a little worried!

Favourite beer: Bud Lite
Australian food you miss the most when away from home: McDonald’s

What exactly could he be missing? A McOz? Hopefully, he’s just got a good sense of humour. If not, let’s hope his golf is better than his taste in beer and food.

  • I’ve been looking into this, and it seems MDF means “Made the cut, Did not Finish”.

Further review says that if more than 72 players made the cut then for US TV a certain number would not be allowed to play the final round. Doesn’t make sense considering he was doing well though….

  • Actually, it seems the bottom 8 after round 3 were MDF’d. This is American TV getting too much clout.

Imagine if Tiger was in the bottom 8….

    Seems preety bad to me.

  • Thanks Piers. It seems like TV getting too much clout. I suppose it allows players to still have the “cuts made” option looking good without actually missing the cut!
