Nick Cullen romps to victory at 2013 Queensland Open: video highlights

South Australian Nick Cullen blitzes the field at 2013 Queensland Open.

Many years ago now, a mate of mine invested in a piece of sporting memorabilia; framed cricket shirt, signed by Australia’s next big off-spinner Dan Cullen. It seems he may have invested in the wrong Cullen as Dan’s twin brother Nick won the ISUZU Queensland Open on the weekend.

The 2013 ISUZU Queensland Open was always going to be a tough test of golf with Brookwater Golf Club’s layout offering no respect to any wayward drive. The course requires extreme accuracy and anything better than par was going to be a good score.

South Australian Nick Cullen eventually romped to victory at Brookwater beating his nearest rival Peter O’Malley by five shots.

“I am feeling great, it’s been a long time between wins so to finally have another one feels awesome,” said Cullen, who won the 2012 Indonesia Open.

“It makes my season a lot easier, it gives me status next year and it will let me look at playing US qualifying school.”

Cullen’s victory was punctuated by the best round of the tournament. His bogey free 7-under par third round was sensational golf and on the back of his first professional tournament victory on the OneAsia Tour last year, it shows Cullen has what it takes to make a bigger mark in professional golf.

Perhaps even establishing himself as the more successful Cullen twin.
