Michael Jordan cancels Presidents Cup trip to Australia

Michael Jordan has been replaced by John Cook as US Team assistant captain for the Presidents Cup.
Michael Jordan was originally named as an assistant captain to Fred Couples for the Presidents Cup in Melbourne in a few weeks. He will no longer make the trip and John Cook will take his place.
The NBA lockout is the cause of the change in travel plans, and Jordan issued this statement in regards to the matter.

“After careful consideration, it is with regret that I have decided to cancel my trip to Australia later this month for The Presidents Cup,” said Jordan.  “With the NBA labor situation unsettled, as the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, I feel it is necessary that I remain in the country.  It was an honor to have been chosen by Fred Couples to serve as a Captain’s Assistant.  I wish Fred and the United States Team the best of luck.”
Eleven time PGA Tour winner John Cook will take Jordan’s place as assistant captain to Fred Couples for the US Team. He will also be playing in next week’s Australian Open at The Lakes in Sydney.
The news doesn’t effect the golf at all, and I’m not exactly sure what Jordan’s role was, but it is a blow for tournament publicity and audience reach.
It was to be the first time Michael Jordan and Australia and I’m guessing are a few basketball fans, with only a passing interest in golf who are disappointed right now. I’m a little disappointed about it myself.
